GitHub Accelerator Showcase: Celebrating our second cohort and what’s next

    July 25, 2024

Today, we are excited to reveal the amazing maintainer stories of the 11 open source AI projects selected for the second cohort of the GitHub Accelerator Showcase. Congratulations to all 11 projects and maintainers on what you have accomplished!

This is a celebration of developers building the future of open source AI and inviting you to join them on their journey. In this showcase, you will meet each maintainer, discover the unique story of each open source AI project, and watch project demos of their innovative technology.

    GitHub Accelerator impact

Over the past 10 weeks, maintainers from all over the world, including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, England, and the U.S., participated in a cohort-based program. Participants gained insights from industry leaders and experts across GitHub and Microsoft and beyond; explored managing the complexities building open source AI technology like legal, ethical and responsible AI; and learned about complex open source topics like community health, sustainability, and security. The selected open source AI projects were equipped with curriculum, mentorship, and $40,000 in non-dilutive funding via GitHub Sponsors. These maintainers built a strong community in open source and AI learning new technologies like securing software with GitHub Security Lab to building with GitHub Copilot. We built a more secure, connected open source ecosystem that we all want to thrive—together.

    What’s next

GitHub is on a mission to enable a world where one billion individuals call themselves developers. GitHub Accelerator is one of the many possible ways to build sustainable open source—but that impact is really made when everyone supports the technology they rely on. Thank you for celebrating these maintainers and the projects they build in the GitHub Accelerator showcase.

If you would like to keep updated on the next GitHub Accelerator, selected projects, or upcoming announcements, please sign up for updates here. We want to ensure that open source thrives, and developers can innovate and maintain essential and emerging open source that they and the community care most about.

Together, we can invest, build, and nurture more open source categories, projects, and people.
