DALL·E Images Now Editable Directly in ChatGPT on Web and Mobile Platforms

    April 3, 2024

OpenAI has recently added a new feature to its image generation model, DALL-E. This update has garnered the attention of AI enthusiasts and creators. The new feature is an editor interface that allows users to refine and adjust their AI-generated images directly within the platform. The interface uses intuitive, conversational text prompts, making it easier for users to make changes to their images.

DALL-E, since its inception, has amazed the world with its ability to craft vivid, detailed images from simple text descriptions. However, achieving the exact vision often required numerous prompt adjustments, sometimes leaving users wishing for a more direct way to tweak their creations. OpenAI’s response to this feedback is the DALL-E editor interface, a groundbreaking tool designed to streamline the creative process.

The process is straightforward: upon generating an image, users will see a “select” button marked by a paintbrush icon. This allows them to highlight the part of the image they wish to edit. From there, adjustments can be made by typing commands directly related to the selected area or by issuing broader edits to the entire image, such as changing its color scheme to black and white.

What sets this new feature apart from similar tools, like Microsoft’s Designer, is its conversational approach to image editing. Users can now interact with the DALL-E editor as if chatting with an AI assistant, specifying changes naturally and intuitively. Want to remove an object? Simply click on it and type “remove robots.” Thinking of adding a touch of spring? Just say, “add cherry blossoms,” and watch the transformation unfold.

This innovative interface is not only limited to the web platform but has also been integrated into the ChatGPT app, which is accessible across the web, iOS, and Android platforms. Users can easily edit their DALL-E images by selecting an image, clicking the “Edit” button, and entering the desired modifications in the conversation panel. This seamless integration within ChatGPT enhances user experience by allowing for a fluid transition between text and image prompts without leaving the interface.

However, it’s important to note that to access the DALL-E editor, one must be a ChatGPT Plus subscriber, with the service priced at $20 per month. This may be a consideration for those deliberating on whether to explore this advanced feature. Nonetheless, for those hesitant to invest, Microsoft Designer offers access to DALL-E 3 for free, providing an alternative avenue to explore AI-driven creativity.

    Key Takeaways:

OpenAI has introduced an editor interface for DALL-E, enabling users to refine AI-generated images using conversational text prompts.

This feature distinguishes itself from others by allowing users to make edits directly by interacting with the image, enhancing the creative process.

The editor is accessible through the ChatGPT app on various platforms, ensuring a wide-reaching user experience.

Access to the DALL-E editor requires a ChatGPT Plus subscription, positioning it as a premium feature for serious creators and AI enthusiasts.

OpenAI’s latest update to DALL-E underscores its commitment to making AI more interactive, intuitive, and accessible, paving the way for a future where creativity and technology go hand in hand.
